A long parchment scroll bearing a single 9th-level spell inscribed in shimmering ink, sealed in an ornate scroll tube of carved bone or precious metal. Reading the scroll allows a caster to invoke the spell at its written level without expending a slot, after which the parchment crumbles to dust. Casters whose class lists do not include the spell must succeed on a DC 19 Intelligence (Arcana) check or suffer a failed casting and potential scroll mishap. These scrolls hold spells like wish, meteor swarm, gate, or true polymorph, and many were inscribed by long-dead archmages whose handwriting itself becomes a relic of historical interest.
