D&D 5e Random Encounter Tables
118,841 D&D 5e random encounter scenarios across 41 locations. Pick a location below, then choose a dice tier — d1 for a single quick scenario, d10 for a roll-d100-then-d10 deep table. Every encounter is ready to run at the table: drop it on your party, add a stat block from our monster catalogue, and play.
How to use these tables
Each location has five tables labelled d1, d4, d6, d8, and d10. The numbers refer to the dice you roll after a d100 to drill into the table:
- d1 — 100 single-line scenarios. Roll d100, get one scenario.
- d4 — 100 scenario sets × 4 expansions each. Roll d100 → roll d4.
- d6 — 100 sets × 6 expansions. Roll d100 → roll d6.
- d8 — 100 sets × 8 expansions. Roll d100 → roll d8.
- d10 — 100 sets × 10 expansions. Roll d100 → roll d10. Deepest table; perfect for long campaigns.

Why these tables work for D&D 5e and 2024
A good random encounter table doesn't just throw monsters at the party — it gives the DM a hook. Every entry on these tables names a creature, a tension, or a moral choice the party has to make. Combine an encounter with a monster stat block from our catalogue, a pre-built NPC for any speaking parts, and a magic item as the loot, and you've built a one-page session in under five minutes.
The tables work with both the 2014 D&D 5e Player's Handbook and the 2024 revision — no rules are baked into the scenarios. Looking for the rules layer instead? Browse our D&D spells list or jump back to the D&D hub.
