Dice in D&D 5e
Dungeons & Dragons uses seven dice: d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20, and d100 (rolled as two d10s for tens and units). The d20 drives every attack roll, saving throw, and ability check; when you have advantage or disadvantage, roll two d20s and keep the higher or lower.
For damage rolls, pick the dice in the spell or weapon entry — Fireball is 8d6, a greatsword is 2d6, and a longbow is 1d8 + Dexterity modifier. Add modifiers in the field above; the total is rolled-sum + modifier.
