Top 10 D&D 5e Conditions Worth Inflicting on Enemies

The most impactful D&D 5e conditions a player can land on enemies — Stunned, Paralyzed, Restrained, Frightened, and six more.

Inflicting a condition is often worth more than dealing damage. Here are the ten conditions ranked by table impact when applied to a single enemy or group.

  1. Auto-fail Str / Dex saves; can't move; attacks against have advantage. Monk's Stunning Strike is the canonical source.

  2. Stunned plus melee crits at 5 ft. Hold Person / Hold Monster's output condition.

  3. Speed 0; attacks against have advantage; disadvantage on Dex saves. Web, Entangle, Grapple.

  4. Disadvantage on attacks and checks while source is in sight; can't move closer to source.

  5. No actions, no reactions. Banishment + Hypnotic Pattern apply this.

  6. Can't attack the charmer; social interaction advantage. Charm Person, Suggestion.

  7. Disadvantage on attacks; melee attacks against have advantage. Trip attack, Grease.

  8. Auto-fail sight checks; attacks against have advantage; own attacks have disadvantage.

  9. Disadvantage on attacks and checks.

  10. Speed 0. Wrestler / monk / barbarian core mechanic.
