Ecology
Aboleths are 20-foot tentacled aberrations dwelling in deep underground lakes, sunken cities, and ocean trenches. They are amphibious but prefer deep cold water. They are functionally immortal — when killed, an aboleth's consciousness simply transfers to a fresh body grown elsewhere in the deep. Each aboleth carries the memories of every aboleth that came before it, all the way back to creation.
Behaviour
Patient psychic tyrants who view all other life as raw material. They communicate by telepathy, prefer slaves to companions, and play centuries-long games of conquest. They despise the gods (whom they remember predating). An aboleth never forgets a slight or a slave — it can recall the face of an ancestor of its current target ten generations back.
Origin
Aboleths are among the oldest living things in the cosmos. Lore says they ruled the world before the gods imprisoned them under the seas — and they still resent it. Their racial memory holds that they 'invented' enslavement and that the gods stole the technique. Encountering an aboleth is encountering a lineage older than civilization itself.
