Ecology
Ancient bronze dragons dwell on coasts, in sea caves, and on lonely islands where they can monitor shipping lanes for centuries. They are the great wardens of trade routes, sometimes by request of kingdoms, sometimes by self-appointment. Their presence keeps krakens, sahuagin, and pirate fleets in check; entire merchant economies depend on a single bronze's vigilance. Around their lairs, marine life flourishes in dense reefs as if blessed. Storm patterns shift to spare protected harbors. Sailors from a hundred cultures know the sign of a bronze dragon's territory: a single cloud always above its lair, even on clear days.
Behaviour
They are martial, principled, and fiercely curious about mortal affairs. They take humanoid form often, walking among port cities for years at a time, befriending sailors, judging captains, and assessing the moral weight of trade. They love history, especially naval, and will trade ancient knowledge for a fresh telling of a heroic deed. They are stern, not cold, and laugh easily once trust is earned. They despise slavery above all crimes and will sink slave ships even at the cost of their cover. They prefer to test heroes rather than rescue them.
Origin
Bronze dragons are said to have hatched from the foam of a primordial sea serpent's death, the first wyrmlings raised by sea elves and tritons who treated them as demigods. Many ancient bronzes still keep loose alliances with deep-sea kingdoms, attending court occasionally beneath the waves. Their oldest were veterans of the war against the dragon turtle empires, and they remember sea wars older than any human dynasty. To swear an oath in the name of an ancient bronze is, in many maritime cultures, the most binding promise a person can make.
