Ecology
Ancient silver dragons prefer high mountain peaks, cloud cities, and the upper airs where the world lies small below. They rarely root in any place for long, drifting between mortal communities to befriend, defend, and learn. Their lairs are often shared with cloud giants in friendly alliance, or built into sky temples maintained by celestials. Around them, weather warms in winter, cools in summer, and the air stays clean. They protect frontier towns silently, often as the same kindly stranger who shows up every generation. Many Silver dragons have foster families they have watched for ten lifetimes, returning as great-aunt, great-uncle, distant cousin, indefinitely.
Behaviour
They are gentle, sociable, and emotionally intelligent. Ancient silvers love mortals, full stop, and consider mortal lifespans heartbreakingly beautiful. They live among humans, halflings, and elves for decades at a time, taking jobs as healers, sages, judges, never revealing themselves except in extreme need. They befriend easily, grieve deeply, and forgive often, but they have a steel core: they fight evil without hesitation when it appears, and they fight to kill. They are the warmest of dragons, but also among the most dangerous, because they will not stop coming for what threatens those they love.
Origin
Silvers are said to have hatched in the breath of a dying angel, raised by Bahamut himself in the clouds above the first storm. Their wyrmlings often emerge in winter, born during snowstorms in mountain shrines to good gods. Most spend centuries befriending mortal lineages, with whom they walk for as many generations as they can stand. Their oldest, the truly ancient, are often considering ascension to celestial status; some accept the call, others refuse, choosing to die a mortal-aligned death rather than leave their friends behind.
