Ecology
Animated Armor is not born; it is **made**. A spellcaster (often a wizard or artificer) binds a minor spirit or simple binding-glyph into a suit of plate, granting it locomotion and obedience. Many such suits are guardian constructs in old manors, abandoned wizard towers, or temple armories. Without a master, a suit may continue its last instructions — patrolling a hallway, guarding a door — for centuries, slowly rusting but never resting.
Behaviour
An Animated Armor obeys command words and triggers. It does not improvise, fear, sleep, or grieve. Most are programmed for a single duty: 'attack any non-keyholder', 'walk this gallery at the hour bell', 'block this stair'. Without orders it stands, motionless, until something violates its conditions. A clever PC who learns the command word can disable, redirect, or even befriend the suit — though true rapport requires repairing its binding.
Origin
The first Animated Armors were arcane experiments in the wizard-courts of fallen empires. Ostensibly bodyguards, many became long-lasting witnesses to their masters' deaths — dutifully guarding empty halls. Variant traditions exist: dwarven runeplate animated by ancestor-glyphs, lich-built armors filled with unquiet souls, and modern artificer drone-suits. Each tradition leaves identifying marks: dwarven runes glow blue, lich-suits whisper Common, artificer suits tick faintly.
