Ecology
Blood Hawks are corvid-raptor hybrids — small, red-streaked, and gregarious. They flock in groups of 10–50 across coasts, hills, mountains, and forest edges, scavenging carcasses and harassing larger predators off kills. They nest on cliffs and tall trees in densely-packed colonies. They eat anything available: fish, small mammals, eggs, carrion, and (when desperate) sleeping creatures.
Behaviour
Blood Hawks are **aggressive flock fighters**. Solo hawks are timid; flocks dive on lone travelers, livestock, or wounded animals, using sheer numbers to overwhelm. They favor eyes and exposed flesh. Their cries are sharp barks, and a flock alarm spreads across miles via aerial relay. A hawk colony will defend its nesting cliff with suicidal commitment during chick season.
Origin
Some sages claim Blood Hawks are the descendants of crows transformed by old battlefield necromancy — birds that fed on corpses for so long they developed a taste for living flesh. Others say they are simply a natural species given to bold flocking. Either way, frontier shepherds blame them for spring lamb losses, and bounties of a copper per beak are common in border villages.
