Ecology
Wild boars are common temperate-forest and grassland omnivores, rooting through underbrush for tubers, acorns, fungi, and small animals. Sows herd in groups (sounders) with piglets; mature boars are solitary except in breeding season. They reshape forest floors, aerate soil, and disperse seeds — important ecosystem engineers, even as they damage farmland. Boars have keen smell and hearing but middling sight.
Behaviour
Boars are **stubborn, irritable, and spectacular when wounded**. A startled boar charges in a straight line; a wounded boar fights harder than a fresh one (advantage while bloodied). They are not predators but defenders — they attack anything that startles them or threatens piglets. Most encounters can be defused by quiet retreat; aggression escalates the fight rapidly.
Origin
Boars are natural fauna, but druidic lore identifies them with **endurance and stubbornness** — symbols sometimes worn by warriors of certain Northern clans. Some boar-totem druids transform into them. A few boars on the borders of the Feywild are touched by fey magic, gaining unusual size or cunning, but the standard boar is simply an obstinate piglet grown furious.
