Ecology
Bone devils, called osyluths, occupy the third tier of the infernal hierarchy as torturers and inquisitors. They feed on suffering and confession rather than flesh, though they will kill when contracts demand. In the Nine Hells they patrol the boundaries between layers, ensuring lesser devils stay in their assigned tortures. Their gaunt frames are not hunger but architecture, every bone shaped to extract truth.
Behaviour
Cold and clinical, bone devils negotiate before they attack, preferring contractual victories to violent ones. They keep meticulous records of every soul they have damned and every promise broken in their hearing. Among devils they are insufferable bureaucrats, citing precedent and procedure. Toward mortals they are patient, willing to wait years for a contract to mature, and exquisitely satisfied when the signer finally realizes what they have given away.
Origin
Bone devils are promoted from spined devils through millennia of service, their bodies growing gaunter as they shed flesh in favor of efficient cruelty. Some scholars whisper that bone devils are also the ascended form of mortal lawyers and inquisitors who damned themselves through career-long abuse of justice; the Nine Hells reuses every talent. The stinger tail is not biological but contractual, made to write in pain.
