Ecology
Efreeti rule the Brass City on the Elemental Plane of Fire, an empire of slavery and flame older than most mortal civilizations. They breathe fire as air, eat coal and ash, and entertain themselves with gladiatorial combats fought by enslaved beings from across the planes. Their economy runs on bound labor, and their armies wage wars against rival efreeti houses that last centuries, fought over disputes nobody now remembers.
Behaviour
Efreeti are imperious, cruel, and exquisitely formal. They keep their word with grim precision, especially to twist its meaning against the speaker. They love spectacle and torment in equal measure, and their courts revolve around elaborate displays of cruelty made beautiful. They are masters of the lawyerly contract, the deferred punishment, and the gift that becomes a curse. They despise djinn and treat their wars as religious duty.
Origin
Efreeti claim descent from the first flame, when fire separated from chaos and became greedy. Their imperial line traces back to a sultan who, in mortal terms, would predate the founding of civilizations. The Brass City rose in conquest of older fire-spirits, who became their first slaves. Wishes granted by efreeti are infamous because the wish-magic carries the weight of every grievance the efreeti hold against the granted-to-mortal.
