Ecology
Giant boars roam dense forests, marshes, and hilly woodlands, foraging for roots, acorns, fungi, and carrion. They live in small groups called sounders, led by an aggressive sow with several young. Boars are excellent swimmers and can clear surprising obstacles with their stocky frames. They are most active at dawn and dusk, wallowing in mud during midday to cool off and discourage parasites in their thick coats.
Behaviour
The giant boar is aggressive, fearless, and unpredictable. It charges intruders at the slightest provocation, lowering its tusks for maximum gore. Even mortally wounded, it may complete one final charge thanks to sheer fury. Sows defending piglets are the most dangerous, attacking even bears without hesitation. Boars hold grudges against scents associated with hunters and may stalk specific individuals for days.
Origin
Giant boars are simply oversized wild boars, the largest examples of their species in fertile temperate forests. Some traditions claim they descend from divine boars hunted by ancient heroes, with each kill diminishing the breed. Royal hunting preserves often maintain giant boar populations as challenging quarry, breeding the largest specimens for festival hunts that test the courage of young nobles seeking knighthood.
