Ecology
Hill Giants are the dimmest of true giants, occupying low rocky hills and grasslands at the borders of civilized lands. They eat anything: livestock, crops, dwarves, garbage, and each other when starving. They live in ramshackle dwellings made of stacked stones and stolen lumber, hoarding food and shiny objects. They reproduce slowly but consistently, and a single Hill Giant family can plague a region for generations.
Behaviour
Dull, gluttonous, and crude, Hill Giants understand basic Common but prefer Giant. They follow whichever giant is largest, with chiefs decided by eating contests rather than combat. They hate clever creatures (gnomes, halflings, kobolds), seeing them as taunting reminders of their own slowness. They tolerate ogres as cousins and Frost or Stone Giants as superiors in the Ordning.
Origin
At the bottom of the Ordning, Hill Giants are descended from storm giant lineages whose ancestors fell in pride or stupidity. They worship Grolantor, lord of hill giants, who teaches them to take what they want and beat what resists. Most other giants pity or despise Hill Giants, but acknowledge them as kin. They occasionally produce a clever specimen who rises through the ranks, but most stay perpetual underdogs in giant society.
