Ecology
Minotaurs dwell in underground labyrinths, ruined temples, and ancestral mazes. They feed on whoever wanders into their domain, hoarding bones and weapons. They reproduce rarely, with offspring sometimes born from cursed mortals trapped in mazes. They live for sixty years and grow more violent with age. They share territory with other monstrosities, often as apex predators. Their labyrinths are constructed by ancient civilizations or grow naturally from cave systems they shape over decades. Few escape their territories alive.
Behaviour
Minotaurs are violent, single-minded, and territorial. They roar to disorient prey before charging. They track via scent, marking each chosen victim and pursuing relentlessly. They take pride in trophies, displaying skulls in their lairs. They communicate poorly with other species, reducing most encounters to combat. They never lose their way in mazes, instinctively knowing all paths. They sleep in central chambers and patrol perimeters constantly. They despise being trapped or restrained, becoming berserk when grappled.
Origin
Minotaurs descend from a curse placed on King Minos's bull-spawn in classical myth, retold across many fantasy worlds. In some settings, they are the offspring of Baphomet or another demon prince, born through cult rituals. In others, they are simply ancient monstrosities, twisted by long isolation in mazes. Their labyrinth-instinct is innate, suggesting magical heritage. Some druidic minotaurs reject the demonic origin, seeking redemption through service to nature.
