Ecology
Nalfeshnees infest layers of the Abyss dedicated to consumption and judgment, lairing in palaces of bone and torn flesh. They are summoned to the Material Plane by cults practicing devour-magic or warlock pacts demanding raw destructive power. They feed on living creatures and on the despair of those forced to watch. Their territories develop a rotting-meat smell that lingers even after the demon departs, and animals avoid the area for years.
Behaviour
Nalfeshnees are gluttonous tyrants who demand worship, sacrifice, and constant deference from lesser demons. They are simultaneously brutally violent and theologically pretentious, lecturing victims on their sins before consuming them. They consider themselves judges of mortal worth, weighing souls on personal scales of arbitrary criteria, and devouring those they deem unworthy. Other demons resent nalfeshnees, but their raw power and direct patronage by Demogorgon make them difficult to oppose internally.
Origin
Nalfeshnees are promoted from lesser demons after centuries of devouring rival demons in abyssal feasts. The promotion is Demogorgon's gift, and the boar-headed body is said to mock celestial law; the original nalfeshnee was reportedly a fallen judge of some primordial court. Each new nalfeshnee receives a domain of judgment within the Abyss and is expected to render verdicts on lesser demons periodically. Demons who escape a nalfeshnee's judgment become its eternal enemies.
