Ecology
The tyrannosaurus rex is the apex predator of any prehistoric ecosystem where it remains. It hunts triceratops, hadrosaurs, and other large herbivores, occasionally scavenging when prey is scarce. A T-rex eats roughly fifty pounds of meat daily; a single triceratops feeds it for a week. They are solitary except during mating season and parental rearing. Females lay clutches of six to eight eggs in nest-mounds of vegetation, guarding aggressively for two years until juveniles can hunt small prey alone.
Behaviour
T-rexes are bestial, with no language, no culture, and minimal social cognition. They communicate via roars (territorial) and low rumbles (mate-calling). A T-rex's bite is strong enough to crush bone, and it swallows medium-sized prey whole. They are cursorial, capable of bursts up to 50 feet per round. They cannot turn quickly; this is their tactical weakness. They cannot be tamed by ordinary handlers, though epic-tier rangers and certain primal-druids have managed it through years of dedicated bonding.
Origin
T-rexes are prehistoric remnants, surviving in lost worlds, time-frozen valleys, and demiplane jungles. Wizards and druids occasionally clone or summon them; these specimens are usually short-lived but extremely dangerous. Some myths claim that the gods of beasts maintain a hidden continent populated entirely by dinosaurs, where T-rexes flourish as nature intended. A few have been encountered on the Material Plane as escaped pets of titanic beings, lost summons, or relics of fallen dinosaur-cult civilizations.
