Description
A sharp-tipped piece of brass roughly 5 inches long, made from thinner strips bound together and engraved with intricate arcane runes.
This item functions as a magical dagger if used as a weapon, though its unwieldy small size reduces your attack rolls by 1 unless you are Small or smaller. If you hit a Construct with the spike and deal damage, you may leave it embedded in the target. You may also embed the spike in a Construct that is Incapacitated without needing to make an attack.
Once embedded, the spike splits into smaller bands and embeds itself surreptitiously inside the target. A DC 18 Arcana check is required to identify that the spike is a foreign object and not originally part of the Construct's design. Once embedded, the spike cannot be removed without destroying it. If the construct is reduced to 0 hit points, the spike is also destroyed.
While the spike is embedded in a Construct and you are on the same plane of existence as it, you may use your action to cast the spell on the target. When cast in this way, the range of the spell is multiplied tenfold.
Generally, you lose your attunement to a magic item if it is farther than 100 ft from you for 24 hours. For the tracking spike, that range is 1 mile.
