Ecology
White dragons inhabit polar ice fields, glaciers, and frozen mountain peaks, lairing in ice caverns of their own breath-carving. They feed on whales, mammoths, and frost giants, freezing prey solid for storage in icy crypt-larders. Their territories are colder than ambient arctic conditions; aurorae warp around their lairs, and the air grows so dry that breath freezes audibly. Frost-adapted predators avoid white territory; the dragon eats them too, regardless of their strategic relationship.
Behaviour
White dragons are the simplest of chromatic dragons, driven by hunger, territorial instinct, and a feral cunning rather than long-term scheming. They speak Common with effort and Draconic fluently but rarely engage in conversation. They hold deep grudges against those who escape them and pursue retreating prey across vast distances. They hoard not for status but for the cold pleasure of frozen reflection; their hoards include preserved bodies of fallen rivals, displayed as ice-statues.
Origin
White eggs are laid in deep ice and incubated by ambient cold rather than warmth, an inversion unique to whites. Wyrmlings emerge instinctively hostile and begin hunting within hours. Young whites have no parental guidance after hatching; the mother often eats stragglers. By adulthood, a white has survived against extraordinary odds and is fundamentally untrusting of any creature, including its own kind. White dragons mate briefly and rarely cooperate even with siblings.
