Ecology
Eagles inhabit mountain crags, sea cliffs, and tall forest. They build massive eyries reused across generations. Diet is fish, rabbits, marmots, lambs, and carrion. A nesting pair patrols a territory of 30+ square miles. Eagles see four times farther than humans and hunt by diving from extreme altitude. They lay 1–3 eggs per spring; sibling rivalry often kills the smallest chick.
Behaviour
Solitary except during breeding. Eagles are fearless and territorial — they will attack creatures many times their size near a nest. Mated pairs cooperate in hunting and chick-rearing. They communicate by piercing whistle and visual display. Some are trainable as falconers' birds, but only by skilled handlers.
Origin
In Forgotten Realms, eagles are sacred to Aerdrie Faenya (elven goddess of air) and to Akadi. The **giant eagles** of the Spine of the World are descendants of regular eagles uplifted by Aerdrie's blessing during the First Flowering. Aarakocra clans treat eagle feathers as marks of honor; an eagle nesting near a village is considered a year's worth of luck.
