Ecology
Quippers are the Underdark equivalent of piranhas — toothy, fist-sized fish that infest cold, dark waters in subterranean rivers, drow-river systems, and flooded tunnels. They tolerate temperatures and pressures piranhas cannot. Diet is fish, drowned creatures, and any wounded thing entering water. Their Blood Frenzy is identical: any prey not at full HP draws Advantage on attack rolls.
Behaviour
Mindless feeders. Quippers school in tight shoals, communicating through pressure-waves only. They have no day-night cycle (Underdark eternal dark) and feed continuously when food is present. They cannot leave water and die in dry pools within hours.
Origin
Drow noble houses farm quippers in **execution pools** — accused traitors are lowered with a single cut, and what emerges is bone. The drow temple-pools of Lolth's clergy have been in continuous quipper-cultivation for centuries. Duergar use quippers in deeper Underdark fortresses as natural moat-guards. The **Sargauth** river beneath Skullport hosts massive quipper populations.
