Ecology

Scorpions thrive in deserts, dry ruins, and warm rocky terrain — Anauroch, Calim Desert, Raurin. Carnivorous ambush hunters, eating insects, small lizards, and other scorpions. They glow under moonlight (a real-world property: scorpion exoskeletons fluoresce under UV). Most species hide under rocks by day and hunt by night. They breed slowly; females carry young on their back for weeks.

Behaviour

Patient, defensive, deadly. Scorpions strike when stepped on, grabbed, or cornered. They communicate by vibration through ground contact and pheromone. They are loners; even mating is brief and sometimes fatal for the male. Their venom evolved against their natural predators (centipedes, certain birds) but happens to incapacitate humans.

Origin

The **Calishite asp-priests of Sebek** wear scorpion-tail tattoos as marks of rank. In Mulhorand, scorpions are sacred to the death-god Set (Mulhorandi version) and live in the temple courtyards undisturbed. The **Stinger Tribes of the Anauroch** are bedine clans who inscribe scorpion sigils on their tents to ward enemies. Giant Scorpions are a real desert threat above CR 0.
