Ecology

Identical to Sea Horse — the SRD includes both spellings as separate entries. Seahorses cluster in reef ecosystems, requiring undisturbed corals and steady warm currents. They feed on microcrustaceans drawn through their tubular snouts. Lifespans are short (1–4 years) and reproduction is delicate, making them sensitive bioindicators of reef health.

Behaviour

Identical to Sea Horse: gentle, anchored, monogamous. Their primary defense is stillness and camouflage. Aquatic elves and merfolk consider startling a seahorse colony bad luck. They orient by sun position penetrating the water column and become disoriented in storm-darkened seas.

Origin

**Triton herdsmen** in the Trackless Sea raise seahorse pods as sacred livestock for their coral cities. The **Coral Vault of Anauril** beneath Lantan is said to be guarded by a vast school of magically Awakened seahorses bound to the Sea Princes. Merfolk children are given seahorse charms at coming-of-age, marking their first independent voyage.
