Ecology
Weasels live in temperate and northern forests, farmlands, and rocky meadows across Faerun. They are ferocious carnivores despite their tiny size: a weasel can kill a chicken or rabbit many times its weight. They slip through any opening larger than their skull (about 1 inch). Their metabolism is so fast they must eat half their body weight daily. They tunnel through snow in winter and turn ermine-white in arctic regions.
Behaviour
Solitary, fearless, relentless. A weasel will attack creatures far larger than itself when cornered or hungry. They communicate by chirp, hiss, and scent-marking. Their hunting style is methodical: locate prey, follow at distance, strike at neck. Folk wisdom calls them 'tiny demons' for their disproportionate ferocity.
Origin
Halfling tradition of the Western Heartlands holds weasels as cunning ancestors — many halfling clan-tales feature **weasel-tricksters** who outwit larger creatures. The Strongheart halfling brewers of Cormyr keep barn-weasels for vermin control. In the Dalelands, witches use weasel familiars for spying through cracks no other creature fits through. The **Brown Weasel of Suzail** is a popular fable about a weasel who steals the king's signet ring.
