Description
You conjure a portal linking an unoccupied space you can see within range to a precise location on a different plane of existence. The portal is a circular opening, which you can make 5 to 20 feet in diameter. You can orient the portal in any direction you choose. The portal lasts for the duration, and the portal's destination is visible through it. The portal has a front and a back on each plane where it appears. Travel through the portal is possible only by moving through its front. Anything that does so is instantly transported to the other plane, appearing in the unoccupied space nearest to the portal. Deities and other planar rulers can prevent portals created by this spell from opening in their presence or anywhere within their domains. When you cast this spell, you can speak the name of a specific creature (a pseudonym, title, or nickname doesn't work). If that creature is on a plane other than the one you are on, the portal opens next to the named creature and transports it to the nearest unoccupied space on your side of the portal. You gain no special power over the creature, and it is free to act as the DM deems appropriate. It might leave, attack you, or help you.

Doungim Lore
School Fit
Conjurations move matter and creatures through space. Half the school summons; the other half teleports. On the school axis, Gate is Conjuration: the spell places matter or creatures into the world that were not there before the cast. The 9th-level slot is the spellcaster's bank vault; Gate earns the cast or it doesn't.
Class Fit
- Cleric: Wisdom is the Cleric's casting stat, and the DC scales with proficiency bonus plus Wis modifier — Gate is castable at the Cleric's normal DC. Gate's concentration requirement makes it vulnerable to a single failed save when the caster takes damage.
- Sorcerer: At tier 1 a Sorcerer's known-spell budget is brutal. Gate earns its slot only if the build cannot win the next ten sessions without it. The 60-foot range on Gate leaves room for the caster to stay in the back line.
- Warlock: Eldritch Blast is the Warlock's default action. Gate only competes with Eldritch Blast if it does more than scale-damage to one target. Gate reaches 60 feet, which lets the caster stay clear of the front line.
- Wizard: At tier 1 Wizards have small prepared lists. Gate earns its place by either being always-relevant (Shield, Mage Armor) or by being the right answer to a known problem. Concentration is the binding cost — Gate can't share a slot with another concentration spell.
