Top 10 D&D 5e Level-5 Spells

Level-5 spells in D&D 5e — Wall of Force, Hold Monster, Animate Objects, and the picks that define tier-3 caster dominance.

Level 5 is when the caster ceiling lifts. Spells at this level reshape battles, lock down bosses, and create no-save outcomes that lower-level magic can't match.

  1. An invisible, immovable wall for 10 minutes. The strongest no-save control spell in the game.

  2. Wis save; paralysis on a single creature for a minute. Pair with Disintegrate for the level-7 single-target combo.

  3. Ten Tiny objects become attacking minions. Single highest sustained DPR concentration spell at level 5.

  4. 4d6 fire plus 4d6 radiant in a 10-ft radius on a Dex save. The Cleric's premier area nuke — the dual damage type slips past most single-resistance enemies.

  5. Permanent stone wall. Use it to seal a corridor, split an army, or bury an enemy.

  6. A floating hand that grapples, shoves, or punches. Tier-3 control with attack-economy flexibility.

  7. 8d8 cold in a 60-ft cone. Standard big-area damage.

  8. Move a Huge creature 30 ft per turn for 10 minutes. Pushes off cliffs; ignores normal grapple math.

  9. Six allies, 3d8 + WIS each. The Cleric's tier-3 emergency button.

  10. Edit ten minutes of a creature's memory. Underused; world-changing in any campaign with named NPCs.
