Top 10 D&D 5e Magic Items for Tier 2 (CR 5-10)

The best mid-tier magic items for D&D 5e characters at levels 5-10. Strong enough to matter, not so strong that the campaign breaks.

Tier 2 magic items are the heart of an item-rich campaign. They give characters identity — the rogue with the Boots of Elvenkind, the wizard with the Staff of the Magi (junior). Here are the ten best.

  1. A shield granting +2 AC. The tier-2 defensive upgrade every front-line tank wants.

  2. Sets Strength to 23 — past the human cap. Turns a STR martial into a wrecking ball.

  3. A ring that stores up to 5 levels of spells for later release. Flexible burst and action economy for any tier-2 caster.

  4. A throwable, consumable Banishment — no slot, no concentration. Deletes one enemy from the fight.

  5. Stabilize automatically whenever you are dying. Insurance against the spike damage that drops tier-2 characters.

  6. Wild Shape natural attacks count as magical and gain +1 to hit. The Moon Druid's missing magic-weapon fix.

  7. A master-artificer rig granting extra speed and agility. A mobility tier-up for any skirmisher.

  8. Hides you from divine senses. Counters scrying and detection in any campaign with a watching god or BBEG.

  9. Projects a Bard's performance with thunderous volume, extending the reach of auras and performance effects.

  10. A consumable horn rumored to hold a wealth of alchemical magic. A one-use wildcard when the party needs an edge.
