Master Gatewarden's Necklace

A mysterious green crystal hangs from a simple leather cord, surrounded by 28 glass beads. This pendant is a fragment of the crystallized essence of the Fey Realm, called a sar'eglador by the elves and a Waystone by the druids, and used to find your way home.

The large central crystal still hangs as the central pendant, but there are also 28 small glass beads evenly spaced around the leather cord. Each of these glass beads can be attuned to a specific plane of existence. When the necklace spends at least 24 hours on a plane of existence for the first time, one of the necklace beads becomes attuned to that plane. This attunement is permanent, and the appearance of the glass bead changes to represent that plane. When a necklace is first found, it has a bead for the Mortal Plane, the Fey Realm, and 1d4 + 2 other randomly-chosen planes.

Passive Effects

If the wearer is within 1 mile of an open portal to another plane of existence, the necklace's pendant begins to glow. If the portal is to one of the planes that the necklace has attuned to, the color the pendant glows indicates which plane. Within a quarter mile, the necklace floats up to point in the direction of the portal.

Active Effects

The necklace grants the wearer a few additional abilities.

• Embrace Your Nature: For one minute, you embrace the fey nature of your elven blood. Your ears lengthen, and your fingernails and teeth sharpen. Add 1d6 to your damage rolls for your unarmed attacks. You gain the ability to make unarmed attacks with your teeth. This ability can be used twice per short rest.
• Tree Step: Spend 10 feet of movement to magically enter one living tree within 5 feet of you and emerge from a second living tree within 120 feet of you that you can see, appearing in an unoccupied space within 5 feet of the second tree. Both trees must be Large or bigger. Momentum is conserved. This ability can be used twice per short rest.
• Transport via Plants: Once per long rest while on the Mortal Plane, you can use the necklace to cast the Transport via Plants spell.
• Planewalker: While wearing this amulet, you can use an action to name a location that you are familiar with on another plane of existence, as long as the necklace has a bead attuned to that plane. If you are not familiar with a location on the plane, you can name a plane and your location within the plane will be random. Then make a DC 20 Wisdom check. On a successful check, you cast the Plane Shift spell. On a failure, you and each creature and object within 15 feet of you travel to a random destination. Roll a d100. On a 1–75, you travel to a random location on the plane you named. On a 76–90, you travel to a randomly determined neighboring plane (if a plane neighbors more than one set of planes, randomly determine a set first, then a plane within that set). On a 91-100, you travel to a randomly determined plane of existence. Once this feature has been used it cannot be used again for six days.
