Ecology

Azers are an elemental species native to the **Plane of Fire**, particularly its volcanic and forge-realm regions. They live in hierarchical clans built around a great forge, mining ore from lava-rich seams and smelting it into legendary metalwork. Each azer has an **iron beard** and bronze skin perpetually warm to the touch. They have no need for food in the mortal sense, drawing sustenance from heat and metalwork.

Behaviour

Azers are **lawful, proud, and craft-obsessed**. They speak Ignan and Common, follow strict apprenticeship traditions, and judge other races primarily by craftsmanship. An azer will trade fine work for fine ore, oblige a weapon-commission for true coin or service, and respect a smith of any race. They despise djinn (a long-running grudge from a planar war), distrust efreeti, and pity humans for their cold blood.

Origin

Azers were created — so the planar legend holds — by the gods of forge and law as servitors. They long ago rebelled against efreeti masters who tried to enslave them; the war reshaped whole planar geographies. Today azers live independently, allied with neither djinni nor efreeti, fiercely jealous of their autonomy. On the Material Plane, azers are summoned forge-slaves only by the most desperate or arrogant casters, and the relationship rarely ends well for the caster.
