Ecology
Azer Sentinels are the warrior-caste of the azer clans, distinguished from common forge-azers by their training and the **active heat-aura** they emit at end of every turn. They serve as gate-guards, mountain-passage wardens, and embassy bodyguards. Where common azers tend the forge, sentinels tend the borders. They live the same heat-fed life but spend their days drilling with hammers, chains, and spear.
Behaviour
Sentinels are **silent, watchful, and uncompromising**. They do not parley except with formal ambassadors. They fight in disciplined pairs or quartets, using their heat aura to deny ground and forcing enemies into kill zones. They are courteous to fellow lawful beings and contemptuous of chaotic ones. A sentinel will accept ritual surrender but not flight, and will pursue oath-breakers across planes if commanded.
Origin
Sentinels are chosen from the azer working-class through a rite called the **Hammering**: a senior sentinel strikes the candidate seven times with a forge-hammer; survivors are bound by glyph and oath to the Sentinel Order. The order traces back to the planar war against the efreet, when azers needed soldiers who could hold passes against fire-genie cavalry. Modern sentinels still recite the names of fallen comrades during their morning vigil.
