Description
You receive an omen from an otherworldly entity about the results of a course of action that you plan to take within the next 30 minutes. The DM chooses the omen from the Omens table.
The spell doesn't account for circumstances, such as other spells, that might change the results. If you cast the spell more than once before finishing a Long Rest, there is a cumulative 25 percent chance for each casting after the first that you get no answer.
5e (2014) vs 2024 changes
This spell has both a 5e (2014) and 2024 Player's Handbook version. Doungim shows the current 2024 stat block above. Differences between editions typically affect components, range, or scaling — check both source books for the table.
Doungim Lore
School Fit
Divination is the school of answers. Where is it; what is it; what will it be; who said what to whom — every Divination spell answers a question the caster could not otherwise reach. What makes Augury Divination is the spell extracts a fragment of the near future. Tier-2 play opens up 2nd-level slots regularly; Augury fits the daily rotation.
Class Fit
- Cleric: Tempest, Tempest, and Light Domain Clerics get bonus damage spells; their identity shifts when Augury is or isn't part of that pool.
- Druid: Druids consider Augury against the Wild Shape baseline — every spell cast is a turn not spent transforming.
- Wizard: Wizards add Augury to the spellbook once and prepare it on the days that warrant it — a different decision from the class's known-spell competitors.
Tactical play (Doungim editorial)
Wis save by the deity; sense weal, woe, both, or nothing for a course of action within 30 minutes. Cleric / Druid pre-decision check.
