Description

An immobile, shimmering barrier appears in a 10-foot Emanation around you and remains for the duration. Any spell of level 5 or lower cast from outside the barrier can't affect anything within it. Such a spell can target creatures and objects within the barrier, but the spell has no effect on them. Similarly, the area within the barrier is excluded from areas of effect created by such spells.

At Higher Levels: The barrier blocks spells of 1 level higher for each spell slot level above 6.

School Fit

Abjuration is the school of conserved magic. Its spells keep things from happening that would otherwise happen — the most invisible and underrated school. Globe of Invulnerability sits in the school because the spell ends, prevents, or absorbs an effect that would otherwise land. At level 6, a single cast of Globe of Invulnerability can be the most important action of the adventuring day.

Class Fit

  • Sorcerer: Sorcerers know very few spells. Globe of Invulnerability is a permanent decision — the spell stays on the sheet unless the Sorcerer pays a level-up swap. Concentration on Globe of Invulnerability forces the caster to choose between this spell and the next big concentration play.
  • Wizard: The Wizard's daily prep list is the class's flexibility lever — every long rest is a chance to reconsider what Globe of Invulnerability is doing on the sheet. Damage taken while concentrating on Globe of Invulnerability forces a Con save at DC 10 or half damage, whichever is higher.
