School Fit
Abjuration is the school every adventurer is grateful for and few cast offensively. Its strength is that the strongest abjurations leave nothing for the chronicler to describe. Greater Restoration sits in the school because the spell ends, prevents, or absorbs an effect that would otherwise land. The 5th-level slot is precious; Greater Restoration earns its slot or doesn't.
Class Fit
- Bard: College of Lore Bards have the easiest case for Greater Restoration: Magical Secrets means the class can reach outside the standard list to grab adjacent picks.
- Cleric: Clerics prepare Greater Restoration from the full Cleric list each day; the question is not whether the class knows it but whether today is the day to prep it.
- Druid: Land Druids gain bonus circle spells by terrain; if Greater Restoration is already on the chosen terrain list, save the manual prep slot for something else.
- Paladin: On a Paladin's prep list, Greater Restoration competes with Bless, Find Steed, Heroism, Aura of Vitality, and Banishment for daily slots.
- Ranger: Rangers tend to pick Greater Restoration when the campaign terrain matches the spell's strengths. Forest-heavy campaigns favor different spells than desert ones.
Tactical play (Doungim editorial)
Remove charm, frighten, paralysis, petrification, level reduction from exhaustion. Tier-3 healer staple.
