What level 5 spells do

Level 5 D&D 5e spells unlock at character level 9. The 5th-level slot is rare — usually 1 to 3 per day at tier 3. Wall of Force, Hold Monster, Conjure Elemental, Animate Objects, Telekinesis, and Raise Dead are the signature picks.

How to pick level 5 spells

How to pick level 5 spells: this is the 'I want this encounter to end' tier. Wall of Force separates a fight in half; Hold Monster removes the boss for three rounds; Animate Objects can out-damage Fireball if positioned correctly.

Tier expectations at level 5 spells

Resource budgeting matters more than ever — a tier-3 caster has many slots but only a few 5th-level ones. Use them for the fights you can't win otherwise; use upcast Fireballs (level 4 slot) for normal fights.
