Description
You pull wisps of shadow material from the Shadow Realm to create an object within range. It is either an object of vegetable matter (soft goods, rope, wood, and the like) or mineral matter (stone, crystal, metal, and the like). The object must be no larger than a 5-foot Cube, and the object must be of a form and material that you have seen. The spell's duration depends on the object's material, as shown in the Materials table. If the object is composed of multiple materials, use the shortest duration. Using any object created by this spell as another spell's Material component causes the other spell to fail. Material Duration Vegetable matter 24 hours Stone or crystal 12 hours Precious metals 1 Hour Gems 10 minutes Adamantine or mithral 1 Minute.
5e (2014) vs 2024 changes
This spell has both a 5e (2014) and 2024 Player's Handbook version. Doungim shows the current 2024 stat block above. Differences between editions typically affect components, range, or scaling — check both source books for the table.
Doungim Lore
School Fit
Illusion spells are the most player-dependent in the game. The school works when the table commits to playing the deception, and it falls flat when the table reaches for Investigation immediately. Creation reads as Illusion the moment you see the effect — the spell creates a perceptual fiction the target's senses report as real. Slots at level 5 arrive slowly through the campaign; Creation earns its prep on the days it solves a problem.
Class Fit
- Sorcerer: Subtle Spell removes the verbal and somatic components; if Creation normally has both, Subtle lets the Sorcerer cast in chains or in a noble's parlor. Creation has an at-higher-levels rule; the spell's per-slot scaling makes upcasting worthwhile in the right context.
- Wizard: Wizards add Creation to the spellbook once and prepare it on the days that warrant it — a different decision from the class's known-spell competitors. At 30 feet, Creation stays usable from the caster's typical positioning.
