Mass Healing Word is Evocation — focused magical energy released not as damage but as compressed AOE restoration. A Bonus Action, up to six allies in 60 feet, each restoring 1d4 + spellcasting modifier hit points. The slot cost is 3rd-level; the spell is the canonical tier-2 party-revive.
Class Fit
- Bard: Bards prepare Mass Healing Word at level 5 for the encounters where the whole party needs simultaneous up-from-the-floor recovery. Bonus-Action cost leaves the Bard's Action free for Counterspell, Hypnotic Pattern, or Polymorph on the same turn.
- Cleric: Mass Healing Word is the Cleric's signature party-save spell at tier 2 and tier 3. Bonus-Action AOE revive paired with an Action spell on the same turn — the canonical play is Mass Healing Word + Spirit Guardians the round of a near-TPK.
