Description
For the duration, the spell enlarges or reduces a creature or an object you can see within range (see the chosen effect below). A targeted object must be neither worn nor carried. If the target is an unwilling creature, it can make a Constitution saving throw. On a successful save, the spell has no effect.
Everything that a targeted creature is wearing and carrying changes size with it. Any item it drops returns to normal size at once. A thrown weapon or piece of ammunition returns to normal size immediately after it hits or misses a target.
The target's size increases by one category—from Medium to Large, for example. The target also has Advantage on Strength checks and Strength saving throws. The target's attacks with its enlarged weapons or Unarmed Strikes deal an extra 1d4 damage on a hit.
The target's size decreases by one category—from Medium to Small, for example. The target also has Disadvantage on Strength checks and Strength saving throws. The target's attacks with its reduced weapons or Unarmed Strikes deal 1d4 less damage on a hit (this can't reduce the damage below 1).

School Fit
The Transmutation tradition is the school of properties. A spell does not move the target; it changes what the target is. Enlarge/Reduce is Transmutation because the spell rewrites the target's physical scale. At level 2, daily slot counts allow Enlarge/Reduce to be cast multiple times across the adventuring day.
Class Fit
- Bard: Bards take Enlarge/Reduce as one of their fixed picks; the trade-off is that swapping it later requires a level-up spell-swap or a downtime retraining session. Concentration on Enlarge/Reduce forces the caster to choose between this spell and the next big concentration play.
- Druid: Druids consider Enlarge/Reduce against the Wild Shape baseline — every spell cast is a turn not spent transforming. Keep in mind that Enlarge/Reduce ends the moment the caster takes concentration off it for any reason.
- Sorcerer: Quicken Spell turns an Action into a Bonus Action; if Enlarge/Reduce costs an Action, Quicken opens a two-spell turn. Enlarge/Reduce's concentration requirement makes it vulnerable to a single failed save when the caster takes damage.
- Wizard: Once Enlarge/Reduce is in the spellbook the cost is gold-and-ritual-time at acquisition; from then on the daily prep decision is free. The 30-foot range on Enlarge/Reduce leaves room for the caster to stay in the back line.
