Description
You attempt to turn one creature that you can see within range into stone. The target makes a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, it has the Restrained condition for the duration. On a successful save, its Speed is 0 until the start of your next turn. Constructs automatically succeed on the save. A Restrained target makes another Constitution saving throw at the end of each of its turns. If it successfully saves against this spell three times, the spell ends. If it fails its saves three times, it is turned to stone and has the Petrified condition for the duration. The successes and failures needn't be consecutive; keep track of both until the target collects three of a kind. If you maintain your Concentration on this spell for the entire possible duration, the target is Petrified until the condition is ended by Greater Restoration or similar magic.

School Fit
Transmutation is the school of change. Its spells turn one thing into another, alter the rules of an object, or rewrite the parameters of a body. Flesh to Stone is Transmutation because the spell rewrites a property of a body, an object, or terrain. Level-6 slots are rare; Flesh to Stone earns its cast when the fight truly needs it.
Class Fit
- Druid: Druids prepare Flesh to Stone from the full list each day, but the Wild Shape economy means prep cycles look different from a Cleric's. Flesh to Stone's concentration requirement makes it vulnerable to a single failed save when the caster takes damage.
- Sorcerer: Twin Spell turns single-target spells into two-target spells; if Flesh to Stone is single-target, Twin doubles its value. Concentration is the binding cost — Flesh to Stone can't share a slot with another concentration spell.
- Wizard: On a Wizard sheet, Flesh to Stone competes for prep slot with Misty Step, Counterspell, Shield (a Reaction always worth prepping), Fireball, Polymorph, and the higher-tier wall and force spells. The 60-foot range on Flesh to Stone leaves room for the caster to stay in the back line.
