Heroism (bard and paladin) casts from a 1st-level slot in the enchantment school. Cast time: Action. Range Touch, components V/S, duration up to 1 minute. Marked concentration. Description

A willing creature you touch is imbued with bravery. Until the spell ends, the creature is immune to the Frightened condition and gains Temporary Hit Points equal to your spellcasting ability modifier at the start of each of its turns.

At Higher Levels: You can target one additional creature for each spell slot level above 1.

Enchantment magic is the great cheating school of the casters. Its spells reach where no martial weapon and no fireball can. The school tag on Heroism is earned by the target it actually affects — the spell rewrites a sentient creature's intent or perception. At level 1, Heroism is affordable in any caster's daily plan.

Class Fit

  • Bard: On a Bard sheet, Heroism competes with Counterspell, Greater Invisibility, and Polymorph for known-spell budget. Pick it when those don't fit the day's planned arc. Heroism scales when upcast — see the higher-level note on the spell page.
  • Paladin: Channel Divinity is the Paladin's Action-cost competitor in encounter math; Heroism earns its slot when it complements rather than conflicts. At higher spell-slot levels Heroism grows — refer to the upcast clause for the exact terms.
