Description
Choose an object that you can see within range. The object can be a door, a box, a chest, a set of manacles, a padlock, or another object that contains a mundane or magical means that prevents access. A target that is held shut by a mundane lock or that is stuck or barred becomes unlocked, unstuck, or unbarred. If the object has multiple locks, only one of them is unlocked. If the target is held shut by Arcane Lock, that spell is suppressed for 10 minutes, during which time the target can be opened and closed. When you cast the spell, a loud knock, audible up to 300 feet away, emanates from the target.

Doungim Lore
School Fit
Transmutation is the school of change. Its spells turn one thing into another, alter the rules of an object, or rewrite the parameters of a body. Knock sits in Transmutation because the spell rewrites a property of a body, an object, or terrain. At level 2, daily slot counts allow Knock to be cast multiple times across the adventuring day.
Class Fit
- Bard: College of Lore Bards have the easiest case for Knock: Magical Secrets means the class can reach outside the standard list to grab adjacent picks. 60 feet is enough range that Knock doesn't pull the caster forward.
- Sorcerer: Twin Spell turns single-target spells into two-target spells; if Knock is single-target, Twin doubles its value. The 60-foot range on Knock leaves room for the caster to stay in the back line.
- Wizard: The Wizard's daily prep list is the class's flexibility lever — every long rest is a chance to reconsider what Knock is doing on the sheet. At 60 feet, Knock stays usable from the caster's typical positioning.
