Description
Flame-like radiance descends on a creature that you can see within range. The target must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or take 1d8 Radiant damage. The target gains no benefit from Half Cover or Three-Quarters Cover for this save.

Sacred Flame is Evocation — the school of channeled energy, here in cantrip form. Radiant damage that bypasses cover (no attack roll, just a Dex save), scales with character level (1d8 → 2d8 → 3d8 → 4d8 at levels 5/11/17). The cantrip's no-cover rule is the canonical mechanical advantage over Fire Bolt.

- Cleric: Sacred Flame is the Cleric's default damage cantrip. Dex save targeting works well against the Strength-based front-line enemies the Cleric is least suited to out-attacking, and the radiant damage type bypasses most resistances at high tier.
