D&D 5e Cantrips

All 27 D&D 5e cantrips. Cantrips are level-0 spells you can cast at will without expending a spell slot — every full caster gets a small handful and they upscale automatically with character level.

What level 0 (cantrips) spells do

Cantrips are level-0 D&D 5e spells you can cast at will. Every full spellcaster gets between three and five cantrips by character level 1, and they scale automatically with character level (not spell-slot level) — a cantrip that deals 1d10 damage at level 1 becomes 2d10 at level 5, 3d10 at 11, 4d10 at 17.

How to pick cantrips

Cantrip picks matter because you'll cast them for the entire campaign. Damage cantrips (Fire Bolt, Eldritch Blast, Sacred Flame, Ray of Frost) compete with utility cantrips (Mage Hand, Prestidigitation, Minor Illusion, Guidance). Most builds want one damage cantrip plus two or three utility cantrips.

Tier expectations at cantrips

The 2024 PHB introduced new cantrips (Starry Wisp, Elementalism, Sorcerous Burst) and changed scaling on some old ones. Eldritch Blast remains the cantrip benchmark — single-target ranged damage with strong invocation synergy.
