Description
You touch a stone object of Medium size or smaller or a section of stone no more than 5 feet in any dimension and form it into any shape you like. For example, you could shape a large rock into a weapon, statue, or coffer, or you could make a small passage through a wall that is 5 feet thick. You could also shape a stone door or its frame to seal the door shut. The object you create can have up to two hinges and a latch, but finer mechanical detail isn't possible.

School Fit
Transmutation is the school that breaks parts of D&D's combat math on purpose. The system trusts that a Transmuter understands what they have done to a creature when they Polymorph it. Stone Shape sits in Transmutation because the spell rewrites a property of a body, an object, or terrain. The 4th-level slot is precious; Stone Shape earns its slot or doesn't.
Class Fit
- Cleric: Channel Divinity is the Cleric's Bonus-Action competitor; pair Stone Shape with Channel Divinity only if both fit the same turn.
- Druid: Circle of the Moon Druids spend most of their turns in Wild Shape — Stone Shape earns its slot only if the build expects to cast in humanoid form.
- Wizard: Wizards add Stone Shape to the spellbook once and prepare it on the days that warrant it — a different decision from the class's known-spell competitors.
