Transmutation magic is the least flashy school and arguably the most powerful. A single Polymorph can decide a tier-3 fight by itself. Stoneskin sits in Transmutation because the spell rewrites a property of a body, an object, or terrain. At level 4, the slot economy tightens — Stoneskin competes with the strongest spells in the band.

Class Fit

  • Druid: Druids prepare Stoneskin from the full list each day, but the Wild Shape economy means prep cycles look different from a Cleric's. Keep in mind that Stoneskin ends the moment the caster takes concentration off it for any reason.
  • Ranger: Gloom Stalker, Hunter, Fey Wanderer, Drakewarden, and Horizon Walker each shape what Stoneskin is worth: subclass-bonus spells reshape the known-spell budget. As a concentration spell, Stoneskin occupies the caster's single concentration slot.
