Ecology
Cult fanatics are the priest-leaders of cult cells — the figures at the altar, the teachers of doctrine, the bridge between the patron entity and the rank-and-file cultists. Becoming a fanatic requires either direct contact with the patron (a vision, a possession, a granted spell) or rapid promotion within a young cult that hasn't formalized its hierarchy. Most fanatics serve one cell exclusively and rarely travel; their role is to maintain the rite and keep the membership ideologically pure.
Behaviour
Fanatics are past the point of compromise. Where ordinary cultists may have private doubts, the fanatic has burned theirs away — usually through a transformative ritual experience that confirmed the patron's reality. They speak with absolute confidence, recruit with calculated charm, and view their own death as acceptable if it advances the cause. They are not insane, but they are no longer reachable by normal moral argument.
Origin
Every cult that survives more than a few months produces fanatics — the dynamic is structural. New cells need leadership, leadership requires conviction, and conviction is forged by ritual intensity that wouldn't survive scrutiny in a public faith. Some fanatics are former priests of a more ordinary religion who fell into heresy; others are converts who climbed the ranks fast; a few are deliberately produced by a patron entity that scouted them in dreams.
