School Fit
Evocation is the school most players picture when they imagine spellcasting. It is also the school that puts the most decisions on the caster's plate per cast — area, angle, save type, friendly fire. Acid Arrow is Evocation: the spell focuses magical energy into a visible, immediate effect. 2nd-level slots become common enough that Acid Arrow can be cast in two or three encounters per long rest.
Class Fit
- Wizard: At tier 1 Wizards have small prepared lists. Acid Arrow earns its place by either being always-relevant (Shield, Mage Armor) or by being the right answer to a known problem. 90 feet is enough range that Acid Arrow doesn't pull the caster forward.
