Description
You evoke a fiery blade in your free hand. The blade is similar in size and shape to a scimitar, and it lasts for the duration. If you let go of the blade, it disappears, but you can evoke it again as a Bonus Action. As a Magic action, you can make a melee spell attack with the fiery blade. On a hit, the target takes Fire damage equal to 3d6 plus your spellcasting ability modifier. The flaming blade sheds Bright Light in a 10-foot radius and Dim Light for an additional 10 feet.

School Fit
Evocation is the school of channeled energy. Fire, lightning, thunder, cold, force, radiance, necrotic — every Evocation spell takes stored magical power and releases it at a target. Flame Blade is Evocation: the spell focuses magical energy into a visible, immediate effect. 2nd-level slots become common enough that Flame Blade can be cast in two or three encounters per long rest.
Class Fit
- Druid: Druid concentration is precious. Most Druids prep one big concentration spell and one non-concentration utility per day; Flame Blade fits one of those slots. The Bonus-Action cost on Flame Blade pairs cleanly with an Action spell on the same turn.
- Sorcerer: Metamagic is the angle for Flame Blade on a Sorcerer. Twin, Quicken, Subtle, Heightened, and Extended each change what the spell does at the table. Casting Flame Blade leaves the Action free — most builds spend it on a cantrip or weapon attack.
