Description

You weave a distracting string of words, causing creatures of your choice that you can see within range to make a Wisdom saving throw. Any creature you or your companions are fighting automatically succeeds on this save. On a failed save, a target has a −10 penalty to Wisdom (Perception) checks and Passive Perception until the spell ends.

Enchantment is the most narrative school. A held creature is interesting fiction; a charmed one is more interesting still. The school tag on Enthrall is earned by the target it actually affects — the spell rewrites a sentient creature's intent or perception. At level 2, Enthrall sits in the mid-tier slot competition.

Class Fit

  • Bard: College of Lore Bards have the easiest case for Enthrall: Magical Secrets means the class can reach outside the standard list to grab adjacent picks. 60 feet is enough range that Enthrall doesn't pull the caster forward.
  • Warlock: Invocations cover a lot of utility a Warlock would otherwise spell-cast. Enthrall earns its slot when invocations don't cover the same need. As a concentration spell, Enthrall occupies the caster's single concentration slot.
