Description
You summon a giant centipede, spider, or wasp (chosen when you cast the spell). It manifests in an unoccupied space you can see within range and uses the Giant Insect stat block. The form you choose determines certain details in its stat block. The creature disappears when it drops to 0 Hit Points or when the spell ends. The creature is an ally to you and your allies. In combat, the creature shares your Initiative count, but it takes its turn immediately after yours. It obeys your verbal commands (no action required by you). If you don't issue any, it takes the Dodge action and uses its movement to avoid danger.
5e (2014) vs 2024 changes
This spell has both a 5e (2014) and 2024 Player's Handbook version. Doungim shows the current 2024 stat block above. Differences between editions typically affect components, range, or scaling — check both source books for the table.

School Fit
The school of Conjuration is two skills in one: summoning and teleporting. Most great Conjurers specialise in one of the two. On the school axis, Giant Insect is Conjuration: the spell places matter or creatures into the world that were not there before the cast. At level 4, the slot economy tightens — Giant Insect competes with the strongest spells in the band.
Class Fit
- Druid: Land Druids gain bonus circle spells by terrain; if Giant Insect is already on the chosen terrain list, save the manual prep slot for something else. At higher spell-slot levels Giant Insect grows — refer to the upcast clause for the exact terms.
