Description
As you hit the target, it takes an extra 1d6 Fire damage from the attack. At the start of each of its turns until the spell ends, the target takes 1d6 Fire damage and then makes a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, the spell continues. On a successful save, the spell ends.

School Fit
The Evocation tradition is the school of the visible spell. There is no subtle Cone of Cold; every Evocation cast is a public event. Searing Smite is Evocation: the spell focuses magical energy into a visible, immediate effect. The 1st-level slot is the most-cast slot of tier 1 — Searing Smite earns its place there or somewhere else.
Class Fit
- Paladin: On a Paladin's prep list, Searing Smite competes with Bless, Find Steed, Heroism, Aura of Vitality, and Banishment for daily slots. Casting Searing Smite leaves the Action free — most builds spend it on a cantrip or weapon attack.
